I have also been listening to American country, rock, soul singer Sturgill Simpson who sometimes dismantles country. His album ‘A Sailor’s Guide to Earth’ (released in 2016 in the U.S.) is intriguing. It constantly moves between genres.
The album, not released in Oz, is available through Warner Brothers/Atlantic Records. His work is conceptual sometimes orchestral and very original. He addresses deep emotion, psychic pain, and injustice. He won a Grammy for one of the tracks ‘Live a Little, Brace for Impact’.
He is signed for a follow-up album by Atlantic Records whom I’m sure will release it in Australia. Record his name!
